After several years of careful research and development, there is now an IRS Kit to allow your 1956 to 1967 Bus or Pickup to run at STOCK HEIGHT! Lower the rear of your 1968 to 1979 Type 2 with these high-strength "boomerang" shaped plates that connect between your spring plate and the rear control arm/axle bearing housing to accomplish a 3 1/2 to 4 inch drop to match your lowered front end. Does not make the rear wheels "squat" (that happens when you wanna be cheap and re-set the spring plates - bad for the Rear Axle Bearings!). Complete with the plates, hardware and instructions for. Note: Requires short travel shocks and possible realignment of your brake lines/hoses depending on installation.

ZAP-51311 Bus & Pickup Rear, 1968 to 1979, Gas-A-Just Shock $75.00
Improve the ride and handling with these specially manufactured springs to lower your 2WD Vanagon approximately 45mm (1 3/4 inches) from it's original stock height. These are not cut from used springs, these are new. After careful research and manufacturing by our exclusive German WD Outlet, these springs are carefully crafted from new materials to prevent cracking and sagging, a problem associated with cutting or heating. Very popular with Vanagon Westfalia Owners, as this should allow you to park that Camper in most garages. Works with existing shock absorbers, as these are essentially the same springs offered as an option on the 1988 to 1991 Vanagon GL Series. At last report, you'd have to spend over $1200 on a set of 4 of these springs. Our price is a little lighter on the wallet. Fits only 2 Wheel Drive Vanagons, not Syncros. Sold only in matched sets of 4 Springs.
250-41000 Vanagon Lowered Spring Kit NLA
For years, adjustable spring plates have been available for all kinds of on and off road applications, but were designed around the usage of Type 1 Rear Torsion Bars and Spring Plate designs. And to produce our Swing Axle and IRS I Conversions above, we had to rely on old spring plate cores provided by the customer as well as purchase them outright. But due to the scarcity and lack of strength of the OE produced plate cores, the solution was to manufacture stronger spring plates in-house. These alloy steel spring plates have a chrome-moly steel insert with proper splines for the rear Type 2 torsion bars. They come gold zinc plated to provide protection against corrosion. They are approximately 25 percent thicker and much stronger than OE produced spring plates and are especially suited for higher horsepower applications. Available for almost any application on a Type 2, the adjustable models help solve the problem of "Sagging Rear End Syndrome", which has become a problem on later made Buses. All models of spring plates use the OEM rubber bushings for a no squeak ride. Adjustable spring plates come with rubber inner bushings and mounting hardware for a hassle-free installation. Non-Adjustable plates are provided for installation with the existing bushings and hardware. Also available in the higher strength material are new replacement stock spring plates for 56 through 79 Type 2 applications.
